COVID Fatigue…Let’s Get Out Of The Fog

It is widely acknowledged that one of the symptoms of COVID-19 has been fatigue, but we would be shortsighted if we did not look beyond that. For many of us, this is the first public health threat that has taken away many of our “normals” in life. We have not been able to see family, friends, or loved ones, and we’ve had to give up many of the things that we enjoy doing as a society. We are constantly bombarded with information on Covid-19 (accurate and inaccurate) via traditional news media, social media, and other outlets.

All of this information is tiresome and can lead to anxiety, depression, stress, mental fatigue, and generalized fatigue. If you’re as tired as I am of the general onslaught of information, I would like to share some ideas on how to combat the COVID-19 fatigue that we are all feeling.

Take Some Time

You need to be able to allow yourself time to reach out to those who are important to you. Social distancing can make this challenging, but it’s vital to keep in touch with family, friends, and loved ones. Make it a priority to call or text, video chat, write letters, or just check in to make sure your loved ones feel connected. At Medical House Calls, we are able to do this on a daily basis because we offer home-based medical care. One of the best parts of my job is having the ability to talk with patients and see how they’re doing from the comfort of their homes. Simply having a conversation with someone during this time can reduce the fatigue of this pandemic.

Just Turn it Off

If you feel constantly inundated by TV and social media apps, now is a good time to try and limit your use of these devices. Experts highly recommend no more than a couple of five-minute check-ins on these media outlets per day if you’re feeling pandemic anxiety. Other ideas to unplug include reading books, listening to music that you find enjoyable, or watching programs or movies that transport you to a more peaceful time and place.

Get Back to You

I would like to challenge you to take a moment to focus on your breathing and think about what truly makes you feel good. Some of my greatest joys outside of my family and helping people are my hobbies. My wife jokes that I am a habitual hobbyist. I enjoy carpentry, blacksmith work, and learning new skills to de-stress. The feeling of accomplishment from any task or project you enjoy can give fulfillment and heighten your sense of self.

Don’t Forget Self-Care

A great way to replenish your energy and combat fatigue is through active self-care. This concept involves deliberately making decisions that will make you feel better. Common examples include physical activity, a healthy diet, and connecting with others. It is important, to be honest with yourself about how you are feeling emotionally and physically, and if you are still feeling run down, we offer great IV hydration packages, including Immune Boost, Tranquil Beauty, and Peak Performance, to give you a boost at a cellular level. Often, people say, “I just don’t have time,” but if you make active self-care a priority, you can find a way to make it happen.

In Conclusion

We at Medical House Calls want you to know that it’s natural to feel mentally and physically fatigued during these times. Hopefully, some of these ideas can help lessen the impact of this fatigue. The Medical House Calls team would love the opportunity to treat you moving forward in the comfort and safety of your own home. Give us a call, and we will do the rest.
